Moderner Retsina wird nach den gleichen Weinherstellungstechniken wie Weißwein oder Rosé hergestellt, mit der Ausnahme, dass kleine Stücke von Aleppo-Kiefer Harz während der Gärung dem Most hinzugefügt werden.

Retsina gilt als ideale Begleitung zu stark schmeckenden lokalen Gerichten wie Pastirma oder Knoblauch Dips wie Skordalia, die oft als Mezes mit alkoholischen Getränken konsumiert werden.
