Greek Meze Platter with Grilled Cheese and Yogurt Dip

Meze are small dishes to share, usually with a drink. This platter combines golden grilled Greek cheese with a fresh vegetable salad and a yogurt dip, and is on the table in a quarter of an hour.

Serves: 4 | Prep: 15 min | Cook: 10 min

Ingredients

  • 200 g Greek grilling cheese
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 red onion
  • A handful of black olives
  • 200 g Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Fresh dill or dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper
  • Pita bread to serve

Method

  1. Dice the cucumber, tomatoes and onion and mix with the olives, 1 tbsp olive oil, half the lemon juice, salt and pepper.
  2. Stir the yogurt with the rest of the lemon juice, a pinch of salt and the dill.
  3. Cut the cheese into 1 cm slices and grill them in a hot grill pan for 2 to 3 minutes per side.
  4. Warm the pita briefly in the same pan.
  5. Arrange everything on a board and drizzle the cheese with the remaining olive oil.

Tips

  • Grill the cheese just before serving; once cold it turns rubbery.
  • Extend the platter with fava, melitzanosalata or dolmades.
