In Greece you drink ouzo with ice and water, which turns it milky white. This long drink builds on that with lemon, mint and sparkling water: fresh and not too strong.
Serves: 1 glass | Prep: 5 min | Cook: none
Ingredients
- 50 ml ouzo
- 15 ml fresh lemon juice
- 120 ml cold sparkling water
- Ice cubes
- A few mint leaves
- Cucumber or lemon slices
Method
- Fill a tall glass to the top with ice.
- Pour over the ouzo and the lemon juice.
- Top up with cold sparkling water and stir gently once.
- Garnish with mint and cucumber or lemon.
Tips
- Never shake sparkling water in a shaker: it loses its fizz and the shaker can burst open.
- The drink turning milky white is normal: the anise oil in ouzo clouds when it meets water and ice.
- Serve with meze such as grilled cheese, olives or fava.
